As the Assembly Election approaches in Bihar, where the SIR has created a political storm over alleged vote theft, the state has been placed under a terror alert after intelligence agencies claimed that three suspected Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists infiltrated through the Indian border shared with Nepal, despite the tight security arrangements.

Police headquarters confirmed the inputs and released sketches of the suspects while directing intensified surveillance across sensitive areas, particularly districts adjacent to Nepal, and ordered enhanced monitoring in view of the heightened political activity in the state, according to The Indian Express.

Security measures were reinforced as senior national leaders began a series of high-profile visits, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi set to address gatherings across Bihar, and officials warned that the infiltration posed a serious risk amid the heavy political movement.

The alert coincided with Rahul Gandhi’s 1,300-km ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’, which is traversing 23 districts and 50 Assembly constituencies, and passed through Sitamarhi and Motihari on Thursday, both bordering Nepal, before continuing from Bettiah on Friday and moving westwards to Gopalganj, Siwan, and Saran.

Meanwhile, the ruling party stepped up its campaign with Prime Minister Modi scheduled to visit Purnia on September 15 to inaugurate the newly built airport and announce development projects worth thousands of crores for the Seemanchal region, which also lies close to the international border.
