The right wing in India wants genocide like in Israel: Prakash Raj
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The right-wing in India is waiting for Israel to achieve its drive of genocide in Gaza so that they can do so too in India, actor Prakash Raj said. He said that the right-wing governments across the world, including India, want people to watch genocide and make it into a new normal, Maktoob Media reported.
Raj was speaking at a public discussion on dissent and shrinking democratic space held as part of the APCR session on anti-CAA activists’ getting their bail denied.
Raj said that young dissenting voices are being jailed because they are the future leaders, are educated, have a voice and are Muslims. They are also jailed because the government is afraid of them.
He said that the current government in the Centre is using institutions to keep young Indians in jail so that it can stay in power. The atmosphere towards this has already been created, and the legendary actor known for his stand for rights said,
He narrated about one of his friends who fears Muslims, but loves Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Aamir Khan. He said that this particular friend listens to Mohammed Rafi when he is sad and reads Faiz’s poetry, but still fears Muslims. Raj stated that the friend was a victim of “WhatsApp University”.
In the case of the murder of Gauri Lankesh, he said that though the culprits behind it were caught, they will walk free within years, and this only depends on who will open the ‘dam’.
He continued that in India, when a man comes home with half a kilo of mutton, rumours spread, a mob gathers, and before the man even knows what is happening, he will be killed. The man dies without even knowing why he died, Raj said.
He reminded us that the genocides will continue, but the only way to resist is to stand up and maintain resilience.
