The parties create division, including mine, Congressman Azad says

According to former union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, a member of G23 of the Opposition party, political parties create division among people on a wide range of grounds, and Pakistan and terrorism are responsible for all that has happened in the valley since 1990.

The comments were made in the context of the controversy surrounding the film 'The Kashmir Files', which has its roots in the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990.

"Political parties create division (among people) 24x7 on the basis of religion, caste and other things. I'm not forgiving any party, including mine (Congress). Civil society should stay together. Justice must be given to everyone irrespective of caste, religion," Azad said in Jammu.

According to him, Mahatma Gandhi was the greatest Hindu and secularist.

"Pakistan and militancy are responsible for what has happened in Jammu and Kashmir. It has affected all in Jammu and Kashmir, including Hindus, Kashmiri Pandits, Muslims, Dogras," he added.

Since its release on March 11, the film, which focuses on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley during the 1990s, has been mired in controversy, with the BJP and the Opposition sparring over its portrayal of the incidents.

Narendra Modi expressed support for the film during a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Party, saying attempts were being made to discredit it.
