The government should allocate adequate funds for the minority education in next budget : Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

In the wake of the educational backwardness of minorities Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Education Board demanded the government of India to consider increasing the allocation of the fund in the coming budget and to address the educational needs of minorities in the country.

An event organized under the title 'upcoming budget-2022-23: Education and Minority concerns' was conducted by JIH Markazi Taleemi Board (Education Board). Experts, economists, educators, academicians, journalists, and intellectuals from different parts of the country engaged in the event.

The Organization stated that the ongoing schemes were not properly audited, and also the details regarding the beneficiaries of the scheme are unknown. Further, the organization added "The government cut the education budget for minorities last year. Minorities have seen their allocations cut from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 4,800 crore. However, at present as much as Rs 10,000 crore is needed to cater to their educational needs,".

JIH said that minorities play an important role in any democratic country. Therefore, it is imperative to always consider their sustainability when planning a project or a budget, especially their education.

JIH also demanded the government allocate the budgetary resources more adequately. They added that substantial amounts are needed for primary to higher education, for which financial assistance is key and specifically for the underprivileged and backward sections of society.

Speaking at the session, the speakers urged the government to allocate 6 percent of GDP to education in the next budget, improve the quality of expenditure, and decentralize budgeting.
