Tata Group's infrastructure and construction arm, Tata Projects has received the contract to build the new Noida International Airport from Swiss firm Zurich Airport International AG. Once the construction is complete, it will be India's largest airport.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited announced that Tata Projects will be in charge of the terminal, runway, airside infrastructure, roads, utilities, landside facilities, and other ancillary buildings at the new airport.

Latest technologies will be deployed for the construction to meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and sustainability, said Vinayak Pai, CEO and MD-designate at Tata Projects Ltd.

The greenfield facility, spread over 1,334 hectares, will have a single-runway operation in the first phase. The airport is expected to handle 13 million passengers per year. The project involves an investment of Rs 5,700 crore. The first phase is expected to be delivered within three years.

YIAPL is a 100% subsidiary of Swiss developer Zurich Airport International AG. It has been incorporated as a Special Purpose Vehicle to develop Noida International Airport. Zurich Airport International AG won the bid to develop the airport in 2019 and the Uttar Pradesh government signed the concession agreement with Yamuna International Airport Private Limited in 2020.

The official statement from the Swiss subsidiary said Tata Projects has been chosen to undertake the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of Noida International Airport. "The company has been selected from three shortlisted teams with demonstrated experience in the design, procurement, and construction of large infrastructure projects".

Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of YIAPL, said the firm is pleased to partner with Tata Projects for the EPC work at Noida International Airport. He added that the next phase will see a rapid increase in the pace of construction activities.

The airport is expected to be functional by 2024.
