Chennai: As fresh Covid cases scale new records, Tamil Nadu braces for tough Covid-19 restrictions for 14 days between 4 am on May 6 to 4 am on May 20, to contain the pandemic.

All government and private offices would be allowed to function with a maximum of 50% employees, an official release said

Weddings will be allowed with a maximum gathering of 20 people only, while essential services like milk and pharmacies will be permitted as usual.

The government has already prohibited the functioning of big malls, shopping complexes and large format shops since April 26. Now Except for non AC provision and grocery stores (with 50% occupancy), all other shops would be shut down, said reports

Fish markets, chicken and meat stalls will not be allowed to function on weekends and will be allowed from 6 a.m. to noon on weekdays.

Passenger trains, metro trains and private and government taxis can ply with 50 per cent seating capacity.

Beauty parlours and spas will not be allowed to function even in rural containment zones and these are already banned from functioning at urban centres.

The government informed that the fresh restrictions were being put in place due to "unavoidable circumstances."
