Supreme Court allows Mahdani to go to Kerala, stay there till July 10

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted PDP Chairman Abdul Nasar Mahdani permission to come to Kerala and stay there till July 10. A bench headed by Justice Ajay Rastogi heard Mahdani's plea seeking relaxation in bail conditions.

In his affidavit submitted against the Karnataka government submission, he had stated that he had no connection with any terrorist organization and that he had been accused only in the conspiracy case and sought permission to return home in the event of a kidney transplant. Mahdani's affidavit included pictures showing his health condition.

He submitted that his Ayurvedic treatment is important, and he also wants to visit his father because his health is deteriorating. Since the trial over the case has started, there is no need to stay in Karnataka, he told the court. The government's contention that the trial is going on every day is not true, and it is held only four days a month, he said.

He said that he had no part in any conspiracy regarding the blast cases in which he was named. It is only an argument that if bail is granted, the evidence will be destroyed. He informed the court that even when he was released on bail earlier, he had followed all the conditions.

The Supreme Court had earlier asked why Mahdani is still being kept in Bengaluru when the trial has been completed, and the case has reached a final hearing. During the hearing on the plea last Friday, Justice Rastogi had asked Karnataka's counsel if Mahdani had breached any bail conditions so far. The state government replied to the question that Madani is a person related to Indian Mujahideen, SIMI etc. and is the founder of a banned party in Kerala and should not allow Mahdani to go to Kerala. When the counsel for the Karnataka government said that the final hearing is continuing today, Justice Ajay Rastogi asked whether it is continuing even today.
