Supreme Court agrees to hear Nawab Malik's bail plea
text_fieldsNew Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to list Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik's plea seeking immediate release from jail in a case of money laundering, PTI reported.
On Monday, a bench headed by Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justices Krishna Murari and Hima Kohli sought senior advocate Kapil Sibal to provide documents. In the SC, Sibal is appearing for the Malik.
Sibal said that the Prevention of Money Laundering Act came into effect in 2005, while Malik has been charged under it for alleged offences committed before 2000.
The Enforcement Department arrested Malik over a property deal that had alleged links to gangster Dawood Ibrahim. Shortly after his arrest, he had filed a habeas corpus in the high court, challenging the arrest as well as the remand orders.
