Sudha Murty nominated to Rajya Sabha, applauded for 'nari shakti'

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations, stating that her presence in the Rajya Sabha stands as a powerful testament to the country's 'Nari Shakti,' particularly as the announcement coincided with International Women's Day.
PM Modi expressed his delight, saying, "Sudha Ji's contributions to diverse fields, including social work, philanthropy, and education, have been immense and inspiring. Her presence in the Rajya Sabha is a powerful testament to our 'Nari Shakti,' exemplifying the strength and potential of women in shaping our nation's destiny. Wishing her a fruitful Parliamentary tenure."
The President of India nominates 12 members to the Upper House of Parliament, recognizing their significant contributions to arts, literature, sciences, and social services.
Sudha Murty, the wife of Infosys founder Narayana Murthy and mother-in-law to UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, received the Padma Bhushan for her impactful social work last year. She began her career as an engineer with TELCO (now Tata Motors). She was also the chairperson of the Infosys Foundation.
An accomplished writer in English and Kannada, her books have been translated into major Indian languages.
