Stalin slams Vijay’s Delhi trip, accuses CM of double standards
text_fieldsChennai: DMK president and former Tamil Nadu chief minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday criticised Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay’s recent trip to New Delhi, accusing him of applying a double standard compared with comments he made when Stalin visited the capital.
Stalin recalled that when he travelled to Delhi as chief minister, Vijay had alleged he was escaping scrutiny in Enforcement Directorate cases and had suggested the DMK sought favours from the BJP. Pointing to Vijay’s own visit, Stalin asked whether the chief minister had gone to Delhi to avoid the Karur CBI case and whether he feared criticising the BJP because of potential repercussions for his government.
The DMK leader said his questions were aimed at underscoring what he called Vijay’s inconsistent rhetoric, since the same accusations were levelled earlier at the DMK leadership. At the same time, Stalin said he would not respond with personal attacks of the kind he said Vijay had used previously.
Stalin emphasised that attending official government events in Delhi is part of a chief minister’s duties and should not automatically be politicised. His remarks come amid growing tensions between the ruling TVK-led administration and the opposition DMK, with both sides trading barbs over ties to the BJP and the Union government.
