Sitaram Yechury slams Centres ordinance on services in Delhi as CPI(M) backs AAP

New Delhi: New Delhi: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Tuesday condemned the Centre’s ordinance on control of administrative services in Delhi and extended his party’s support to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in opposing it in Parliament when a bill will be brought to replace it.

Yechury also appealed to the Congress and other opposition parties to support the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on the issue, saying promulgation of the ordinance on administrative services in Delhi is a “brazen violation” of the Constitution and this can happen with the government of any non-BJP party.

The development comes after Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal met Yechury at the CPI(M) office here, seeking the Left party’s support on the issue.

"We have condemned the ordinance brought by the Centre. It is unconstitutional. It is also contempt of court. We appeal to the biggest opposition party Congress to come forward to save our Constitution," Yechury told a joint press conference with Kejriwal after the meeting.

“Be it Rajya Sabha or anywhere, we will oppose the ordinance...,' he added.

"I strongly oppose and condemn the Centre's Ordinance. This issue is not specific to any particular political party and can affect any non-BJP state. I appeal to all Opposition parties to criticise and oppose this ordinance and protect ourselves from the encroachment on the Constitution by the Modi government," AAP tweeted, quoting Yechury.

Kejriwal expressed gratitude to all the leaders who supported him in the fight against the Centre.

"Today, senior leader Sitaram Yechury and other leaders of the CPI(M) met to discuss this issue. All the leaders believe that the Modi government is acting unjustly towards the people of Delhi. CPI(M) also organised a rally in support of the people of Delhi and will stand with them in Parliament as well. On behalf of the people of Delhi, I express heartfelt gratitude to Yechury and all the other leaders," Kejriwal tweeted.

“The Modi Government is acting like a dictator in Delhi and not allowing them to work”, he added.
