SIR notices do not mean deletion from Delhi voter rolls: EC

The Election Commission has clarified that notices issued to prominent voters under Delhi's ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls do not mean their names have been excluded from the voter list.
The clarification came after notices were issued to several high-profile individuals, including Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. An EC official told NDTV that the notices indicate discrepancies in documentation and said the issue involving Gupta and Jaishankar had been resolved.
Other prominent figures issued notices include former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, former Delhi BJP president Virendra Kumar Sachdeva, senior BJP leader L K Advani and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Former Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi and his wife, and the wife and son of CPM MP John Brittas, have also received notices.
Several senior officials, including Election Commissioner S S Sandhu, Sebi Chairman Tuhin Kanta Pandey, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Principal Scientific Adviser Ajay Kumar Sood, are also among those receiving notices.
The Delhi election body said system-generated notices are being issued to correct data in ECINET and stressed that no name can be deleted without an opportunity to be heard and a proper order. Voters receiving notices can submit documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Booth Level Officer.
The draft electoral rolls were published on August 31 based on information submitted through enumeration forms. Notices were issued to voters whose details could not be linked with the electoral roll from the last intensive revision or contained logical discrepancies.
Of around 97 lakh voters in the draft rolls, 33.13 lakh have been identified for notices over discrepancies, with more than 31.63 lakh notices served so far. The disposal of notices is scheduled to be completed by October 29, with the final electoral roll due to be published on November 4.
