New Delhi: An analysis by news agencies The News Minute and Newslaundry found that BJP threatened at least 30 private companies using central probe agencies to force them to pay the party Rs 335 crore between the financial years of 2018-19 and 2022-23.

The analysis report suggests that out of the 30 firms, 23 gave a total of Rs 187.58 crore to the party during the said period, but they had never paid the party between 2014 when BJP came to power at the Centre and the year when agencies raided them.

At least four of the companies paid the party a total of 9.05 crore within four months of a central agency visit to their premises. Among the companies, at least six were already donors to the BJP but paid heftier amounts following central agencies’ visits.

Some six firms that used to pay BJP annually faced probe agencies’ action after they skipped donations in one financial year.

Further, the reports stated that at least three companies, who are donors to BJP but not on the list of the 30, were accused of receiving undue favours from the Union government.

And only three among the 30 companies donated to the Congress party between the financial years of 2018-19 and 2022-23.

The joint analysis by the two news portals examined Election Commission records, case files, financial cases, donations, etc., which were made between the two financial years. The analysis found that some companies gave donations during or after the central agencies’ raids, while in others, companies that made donations were granted licences or clearances. The report also states that agencies continued their actions on some companies even after they paid the BJP.
