Ghulam Nabi Azad

Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said that employees of the Jammu and Kashmir government who belong to the Kashmiri Pandit community must be temporarily shifted to Jammu, Asian News International reported.

He said that life is more important than employment, and the community could be brought back when the situation improves in Kashmir.

The Democratic Azad Party Chief said that if their government comes to power, they will transfer Kashmiri Pandits to Jammu and bring them back when the situation improves.

Last week, Lt Governor Manoj Sinha informed that those serving in the valley from the community would not be paid their salaries if they were absent from their duties.

However, the migrant Kashmiri Pandits are protesting against the statement and claiming that they are facing threats terrorists keeping them from going to work.

A Kashmiri Pandit said they do not trust the administration's security policy of, posting a police officer outside their duty location.

Another Pandit said that the prime reason behind the protests is the insecure environment in Kashmir. They want the government to post them at safe and secure places since there were targeted killings going on against the minority community in the valley.

Since October last year, the valley has been witnessing a series of targeted killings.

According to an NIA charge sheet, the targeted killings are part of a larger conspiracy by the terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen. It, along with other terrorist outfits, intends to disturb the peace and democratic status quo established through Panchayati Raj in the valley.
