New Delhi: Shehla Rashid Shora, former Vice President, Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union refuted allegations of her biological father Abdul Rashid Shora. Terming them as 'disgusting and baseless' she called him a 'wife beater'. She said that his statement is the reaction of the court's action barring his entry into their house, in response to the complaint filed against him under domestic violence.

Shehla Rashid Shora took it to twitter and revealed that her father was abusive towards her mother and her sister along with her since a long time. She wrote in a detailed tweet: "many of you must have come across a video of my biological father making wild allegations against me, my mum and sis. To keep it short and straight, he's a wife beater and an abusive, depraved man. We finally decided to act against him, and this stunt is a reaction to that."

She also revealed that her father has a long history of being an abusive man as she shared the letter issued by municipal committee to him as a warning not to abuse them back in 2005. She also attached the copy of the court's order restraining his entry into the home dated 17, November, 2020.

She further wrote that her mother has been tolerating abuse, violence and mental torture all her life and when she started questioning his father, he abused her and sister too. She filed a complaint against him under domestic violence in September and court has taken an action now, he is just reacting to it.

Ms. Rashid ended her tweet by writing, "one can endlessly talk about justice, but charity begins at home. We have finally decided to not bear abuse silently, as silence only emboldens abusers"

Earlier on Monday, Abdul Rashid Shora, father of Shehla Rashid Shora accuses her to be involved in 'anti-national activities' and that she is working against the state along with her mother and sister Zubaida Shora and Asma Shora. He alleges getting death threats from Shehla, as he wrote to DGP Dilbag Singh claiming that he feared for his life and is being threatened by Shehla's bodyguard because he is not in favor of her political associations. He also accused her of raising funds from illegal means and demanded investigation for terror funding.

In his complaint to the DGP he have mentioned that, "I have a strong belief that anti-national activities are going on in my house"

He claimed, "the restriction order of not entering house had been stayed by court, despite that the local police did not accompanied me to my home, I was threatened by armed bodyguard of Shehla after which I had to ran away from Srinagar to Jammu"

In his statement he also alleged that he was offered an amount of 3 crore rupees to join a political party (Jammu and Kashmir People's Movement) headed by Shah Faesal, former IAS officer.

However, Shah Faesal have strongly refuted his mention in this case, he took it to twitter as he explains his position and wrote:

Soon after Shehla's tweet twitter flooded with the responses in her support, including people who differ with her on ideological grounds. Many people and organizations backed her up for standing against domestic violence and calling out patriarchy.

Sanjukta Basu, an author and a journalist while replying to Shehla's tweet responded, "I knew it, somebody shared this now, but even before seeing your tweet I sent out my solidarity tweet because I could just see the story. Insecure patriarchal man cannot deal with empowered daughters/ wife runs to political vultures to play victim"

An Indian writer Suchitra Tyagi wrote, "It should make you very angry that three women in today's India have to publicly share a restraining order against an abusive male member of their family because twitter trolls and news media will go to ANY lengths to discredit and silence dissenters. For shame"

Andre Borges, a social media reporter for Buzzfeed tweeted, "it's ridiculous that any woman has to prove that a family member is an abuser, let alone to appease twitter trolls using abuser's words for political agendas"

A twitter user Jerin Ephrem wrote, "I don't think you need more proof or common sense to understand what motivated @shehla_rashid father to come up with this. It's frightening to see how low men can stoop. Screw abusers, arrest this asshole"
