SC orders VHP/Bajrang Dal rallies over Haryana clashes to be videographed

New Delhi: The Supreme Court heard a petition to stop rallies "that are likely to fan communal fires and incite people to resort to violence" and issued a notice to the governments of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Delhi regarding VHP/Bajrang Dal rallies saying "rallies can go on but should be video graphed" as protests over the communal clashes in Haryana reached the border of Delhi.

The Supreme Court ordered the Centre to make sure "hate speech does not happen" at rallies and to make more personnel available for security reasons. The next hearing will take place on Friday, August 4.

"We hope and trust that the State along with police shall ensure that there is no hate speech against any community or violence against any property. Wherever required, additional police force or paramilitary force be deployed, and wherever required authorities shall use the CCTV cameras or make video recordings in all sensitive areas wherever required. The CCTV footage shall be preserved," the Court's order stated.

Following the communal unrest in Nuh, an urgent appeal was filed earlier in the day asking the Supreme Court to halt demonstrations planned by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal in Delhi-NCR, Indian Today reported.

"Given the fact that the situation in Nuh and Gurgaon continues to be extremely tense and even the slightest provocation could result in serious loss of life and damage to property, rallies that are likely to fan communal fires and incite people to resort to violence, ought to not be permitted," the petition stated. It also cited "23 protest marches to Delhi" to buttress its request for an urgent hearing.

In the Delhi neighbourhoods of Badarpur and Seelampur, Hindu groups are actively demonstrating.

Bajrang Dal members staged a protest next to the Nirman Vihar metro stop in Delhi after the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) called one in response to the most recent violent incidents in Nuh, Haryana.

On Tuesday night, new violence in Gurugram raised a warning in Delhi. The Gurugram Police advised people not to believe or pay attention to claims on social media and to call 112 for assistance instead. 'Incidents of arson and skirmishes' were reported according to the police.
