New Delhi: The Supreme Court overruled a Calcutta High Court direction ordering CBI to probe the alleged attack on Union Minister Nisith Pramanik's convoy during his visit to West Bengal. The Union minister was visiting his constituency in the state in February when the alleged attack happened, PTI reported.

A bench of Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and justices P S Narasimha and J B Pardiwala took note of an additional affidavit of the West Bengal Police on the status of the probe. It directed the high court to look into the material once again and decide if a CBI probe is needed.

The court said, "We set aside the Calcutta High Court order."

It was on March 28, the Calcutta High Court ordered a CBI probe into the alleged attack on the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs. The minister was visiting his constituency, Dinhata, in the Cooch Behar district of West Bengal on February 25.

The High Court order was on a PIL filed by the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari. He had sought a CBI probe into the attack and alleged that there was a conspiracy to cause harm to the Union minister, who belongs to BJP.
