Patna: Giving an indirect reference to his stand on Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said that the urgency must be delivered to rising Covid-19 cases rather than CAA. The CM's- who came to power allying with BJP- the statement comes in the backdrop of Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that CAA will be implemented as soon as the pandemic abates.

Nitish Kumar said, "The way cases are increasing in the country, it is the biggest challenge for us. They should have to look after its prevention. We will think about any policies that would come before us."

IANS reports that Nitish Kumar's statement indicates that he wants to wait for the decision of the Centre on CAA implementation to reveal his plan of action.

Despite being an ally in Bihar and the Centre, Nitish Kumar has a different stand on the CAA, NRC and Uniform Civil Code. The same is turning the relationship between them sour.

Nitish Kumar and his party, JD-U, believe that supporting BJP on the three issues would hurt their vote bank. However, BJP wishes to add pressure on JD-U so that latter would support them.

Amit Shah had said on Friday that the Union government is going to implement CAA in India after Covid-19 fourth wave ends.
