Revoke farm laws for harmony, says Stalin

Only the complete revocation of the three controversial farm laws devised by the Centre can bring harmony in the country, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin stressed on Tuesday. Stalin condemned the violence that ensued in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh, and demanded a judicial probe into the case. Eight people, including four farmers and a local journalist, were killed in the violence on Sunday. They were allegedly knocked down by vehicles on their way to welcome UP Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya.

"Farmers have been protesting for the last 300 days against the farm legislations and the ongoing events in Uttar Pradesh are the result of the Centre's indifference to the farmers' demands," Stalin said.

"A judicial enquiry should be ordered against those responsible for the violence. The Central government must realise that complete repeal of the three farm laws alone will lead to normalcy and total peace," he added. Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi was detained and also former Uttar Pradesh CM and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav at his house before being arrested and released, Stalin added.
