Following the death of more than half a dozen candidates in the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat polls, repolling shall be held in several seats following the wrap up of the entire counting process, informed the State Election Commission.

In Kurawali in the Mainpuri district, Pinky, who contested for the village head's post, died before counting. She won the election on Sunday. In Rasoolpur village in Firozabad, Babulal passed away on April 25. He was declared elected.

Savita, who won the Gram Panchayat election in Naura village in Amroha, died two days ago. In Bhogala village in Unnao, Shivkali died two days before she was elected. In Jaunpur's Ramnagar block, Ram Chandra, who was elected village head, died.

Vimla Devi, who was cremated just hours before, was declared elected in Kapuri Ekauna village in Deoria district. Pawn Sahni won the election from Jaitpur village but died before the declaration.

Several others also died though their information is not available.

Most died reportedly following Covid-like symptoms, though none were tested or treated because they didn't want to be barred from the counting process.
