ReNew Power, HSBC India to electrify 75 schools in 3 states

New Delhi: ReNew Power and HSBC India released a joint statement announcing the two teaming up to electrify 75 schools in three states with solar energy. They also plan to create awareness of climate change among students through the school curriculum, and digital labs will be set up in the schools as part of the duo's initiative, NDTV reported.
ReNew chief sustainability officer Vaishali Sinha said in the mentioned statement that their programme aims to advance access to learning, which includes education, and create practical awareness about the importance of defending climate change "for a better, greener and cleaner future for India".
Sinha said that the programme would serve children with advanced facilities aligning with modern education. It is essential to educate children about climate change since they are the future warriors against global warming, preserving the Earth, she said.
HSBC India, head of corporate sustainability Aloka Majumdar said that education is a key enabler of the rural ecosystem.
The new partnership follows another project, Project Surya, in which ReNew works with its partners to train around 1,000 women salt pan workers as solar panel and solar pump technicians. This initiative aims to improve women's livelihood.
Meanwhile, HSBC India has been working, with its non-profit partners, on energy transition in sectors like healthcare and the dairy cold chain.
ReNew, one of India's largest renewable energy independent power producers works on developing, building and operating utility-scale wind, solar and hydroelectricity projects.
