Vadodara/Gujarat: A demand for a hefty donation for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations spiralled into violence in Gujarat’s Vadodara after a shopkeeper refused to pay, with a group of young men allegedly storming his store and attacking him and his mother, Siasat report.

The incident took place at the Rajasthan Kulfi Store in the Chokhandi area, where the men reportedly sought Rs 21,000 from the shopkeeper as a festival contribution. After he declined, they allegedly entered the premises, assaulted the shopkeeper and his mother, and vandalised the property.

CCTV footage from inside the shop has emerged, capturing the alleged vandalism and providing police with key material for the investigation. Police have begun probing the incident based on the footage and the complaint filed by the shopkeeper.

The incident has raised concerns over the aggressive collection of festival donations and the manner in which religious celebrations can become a flashpoint for confrontation and violence.
