On a day when a record number of cases were recorded across India, the country is also witnessing many political leaders getting infected with the virus.

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal and Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani and Congress leader Digvijaya Singh have now been tested positive for the coronavirus.

The four leaders themselves took to Twitter to confirm the news.

Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Kaur said that she has been diagnosed with minor symptoms. Jignesh Mevani tweeted that there are no health issues and urged everyone to wear a mask.

Randeep Singh Surjewala tweeted that those associated with him should go in quarantine while senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said he was staying in quarantine at his home in Delhi.

Meanwhile, 2,17,353 people in the country have been infected with Covid in the last 24 hours. This brings the total number of patients currently undergoing treatment to 15,69,743. 1185 fatalities were also confirmed. The death toll rose to 1,74,308.

The spread of the Covid has been recorded to be more critical and rapid in states like Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat. Lack of oxygen and lack of bed facilities is adding more tension to the crisis.
