Ram Navami violence in Bihar was planned on social media: police
text_fieldsBiharsharif/New Delhi: Police on Monday said that the violence during the Ram Navami in Bihar was ‘well-planned’ on social media.
The mastermind behind the violence, according to the police, was Kundan Kumar who is the convener of the Bajrang Dal for the Nalanda district, according to NDTV.
Kundan Kumar and the other accused plotted and executed the communal clashes via a WhatsApp group which was formed ahead of the Ram Navami with 456 members, police reportedly said.
Jitendra Singh Gawar, Additional Director General of Police, Bihar, also said that Kundan Kumar was the admin of the WhatsApp group.
Kundan Kumar surrendered after the authorities began to attach his properties.
‘In the WhatsApp group, a conspiracy was plotted to spread violence and fake and misleading posts targeting one community were shared’ Gawar reportedly said.
Early probe, according to police, revealed that the WhatsApp group was used as a means to spread fakes videos against members of the other community, thus instigating people.
Police filed cases against 15 people for communal clashes in Nalanda alongside arresting five accused even as Kumar and another one surrendered.
During Ram Navami procession on March 31, violence had broken out in Biharsharif which left one dead and several injured.
