Rajasthan tribal woman paraded naked by husband, in-laws
text_fieldsJaipur: A tribal woman was allegedly stripped naked and paraded in Nichalkota village in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district on Thursday by her former husband and his family, police said on Friday.
The incident came to light after a purported video of the incident surfaced online.
An FIR has been registered and six teams of police have been formed to detain the accused, the officials said.
According to an initial investigation, the 21-year-old woman was in a relationship with another man, said Dhariyawad SHO Peshawar Khan.
The woman was kidnapped by her in-laws and taken to their village where the incident took place.
Taking cognizance of the incident, the state government instructed Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra, ADG Crime Dinesh M.N. to visit Pratapgarh and take swift action in the case.
Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot posted on X, “Such incidents have no place in a civilised society.” He said the accused will be arrested soon and tried in a fast-track court.
Former chief minister Vasundhara Raje alleged that the video of the woman being stripped in front of people was doing rounds on social media, but the administration was not aware of it. The BJP leader also appealed to people to not share the video, saying the incident has put Rajasthan to shame.
Reacting over the incident, Deputy Leader of Opposition Satish Poonia said, "Soul trembles after watching the video of misbehavior with a tribal woman in Pratapgarh. The morale of the criminals is so high that they are openly making videos of the crime."
Poonia urged the state government to punish the culprits "so harshly that even the thought of committing such crimes trigger fear in the minds of the criminals".
