The Ministry of Railways has announced plans to manufacture an additional 10,000 non-AC coaches over the next two fiscal years, 2024-25 and 2025-26, aiming to meet rising passenger demand and improve comfort for the common man.

A senior official detailed the plan, revealing that the Railways will produce 4,485 non-AC coaches in the current financial year (2024-25) and 5,444 more in the following year (2025-26). This initiative is part of a broader strategy to enhance the capacity of its rolling stock, with more than 5,300 general coaches also set to be rolled out.

For the ongoing fiscal year, Indian Railways is slated to manufacture 2,605 general coaches, including specialized Amrit Bharat general coaches designed to boost passenger amenities.

Additionally, 1,470 non-AC sleeper coaches, 323 Sitting-cum-Luggage Rake (SLR) coaches, 32 high-capacity parcel vans, and 55 pantry cars will be produced to meet diverse passenger and logistical needs.

In the fiscal year 2025-26, the production will continue with 2,710 general coaches, maintaining the inclusion of advanced Amrit Bharat general coaches.
