Rahul Gandhi makes Diwali sweets at Old Delhi’s iconic Ghantewala shop
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday shared a video of himself making traditional Diwali sweets at the historic Ghantewala sweet shop in Old Delhi, as he extended greetings to people on the festival and urged them to share how they were celebrating it.
In the video posted on X, Gandhi is seen learning to make ‘imarti’ and ‘besan laddoo’ alongside the shop’s staff. “Tried my hand at making imarti and besan laddoo at the famous and historic Ghantewala sweet shop in old Delhi,” the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha wrote.
He added, “The sweetness of this centuries-old, iconic shop remains the same – pure, traditional, and heartwarming. Tell us, how are you celebrating your Diwali and making it special?”
The clip also features the shop owner telling Gandhi that his family had served his grandmother, father and other relatives in the past and joking that they were now waiting to supply sweets for his wedding. Gandhi responds with a smile to the remark.
As he helps in preparing the sweets, Gandhi notes that the process is entirely traditional and requires great skill and patience.
In a separate post on X, the former Congress president wished the nation on Diwali, saying, “May India be illuminated with the lamps of joy, may the light of happiness, prosperity, and love spread in every home.”
