Guwahati: Students of the Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IIT-G) in Assam have taken out a massive protest after a student was found dead in hostel room, NDTV reported.

The 21-year-old male, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, is the fourth student to die this year.

Given the situation, protesters raised questions against the effectiveness of the institute's mental health support systems.

The body of student was shifted to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a postmortem examination.

Institute’s spokesperson expressed grief at the death of the student, while encouraging students to ‘reach out to our support networks’.

‘IITG reaffirms its commitment to fostering a supportive and safe environment for all students,’ the spokesperson reportedly said.

A police officer reportedly said that a probe into the death is underway.

A 24-year-old MTech student was found death in hostel room on August 9, according to the report.
