North Delhi tables "Waste-to-art" themed public park

Sculptures in 'Bharat Darshan Park' of South Delhi
New Delhi: The North Delhi Municipal Corporation's (NDMC) standing committee approved the proposal to build a park, theming 'waste-to-art' on Friday. The park is to be set up at the Ajmal Khan Park in Karol Bagh, PTI reported citing official sources. The park is spread over nine to ten acres, they said.
The administration now needs the approval of the NDMC House.
The proposal says that there will be 13 sculptural models of famous landmarks. This includes the Great Sphinx at Giza, the Great Wall of China, Opera House in Sydney, Sagrada Familia of Barcelona and Stonehenge of the United Kingdom.
Further, there will be 12 artworks in the park, including models of Angkor Wat of Cambodia, Chichen Itza of Mexico, the Grand Mosque of Abu Dhabi, London Bridge, Mount Rushmore in the US and Petra in Jordan, it said.
The proposal, which had been submitted at the meeting of the NDMC panel, estimates the cost for the project as Rs 27.14 crore.
The South Delhi's Municipal Corporation (SDMC) had brought a 'Wast-to-Wonder' park at Sarai Kale Khan in February 2019. The park sports replicas of many famous monuments, such as the Taj Mahal and Eiffel Tower, made of mechanical waste. Union Home Minister Amit Shah had inaugurated the SDMC's 'Bharat Darshan Park' at Punjabi Bagh on December 24. There are 21 Indian monuments, including the Victoria Memorial Hall and the Mysore Palace, that were placed in the park. The cost of construction of the park amounted to Rs 20 crore.
Last year, Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal had said that the 'Waste to Wonder Park' was a shining example of the "waste-to-wealth" concept. SDMC should make more similar parks, he had said.
