Irregularities in the competitive tests conducted by NTA triggered scathing protests across the country.

New Delhi: Over the matter of NEET, the Union government submitted an affidavit before the Supreme Court, which claimed that there were no widespread irregularities, as reported by many examinations. Therefore, there is no need for a re-test. The Centre argued that the cancellation of existing tests would affect lakhs of students who have appeared in them.

The Union Ministry of Education submitted an affidavit in this regard. The central government has also informed the Supreme Court that the CBI has been tasked to investigate the irregularities related to NEET.

There have been allegations of widespread irregularities in NEET, the entrance exam for courses like MBBS, BDS and AYUSH.

People were also arrested in this regard. Subsequently, petitions were filed in the Supreme Court. The petitions demanded that the examination be cancelled. While considering the petition on June 11, the Supreme Court sought the response of the central government and the National Testing Agency, which conducted the examination. The petitioners sought cancellation of the counselling of the examination, but the court rejected the prayer.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences said on Friday that the NEET-PG 2024 entrance exam will take place on August 11 in two shifts.

The original date of the exam was June 23.

"In continuation of NBEMS notice dated 22.06.2024, the conduct of the NEET-PG 2024 examination has been rescheduled. It will now be conducted on August 11 in two shifts. The cut-off date for the purpose of eligibility to appear in the NEET-PG 2024 shall continue to be August 15, 2024," the Board said.

The Union Health Ministry on June 22 postponed the NEET-PG entrance examination, scheduled to be held on June 23, as a "precautionary measure" in the wake of allegations on the integrity of certain competitive exams.
