Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda painted a wall mural at Ghatkopar East, Mumbai to celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day.

She shared a video of her painting the wall on Instagram and wrote: "Just us out here painting a wall mural on periods to celebrate World Menstrual Hygiene Day." She added that it is an attempt to celebrate menstruation and make public places more period friendly".

She captioned the video "Happy World Menstrual Hygiene Day!".

Her mother, Shweta Bachchan commented: "Navyaaaaaa. Love you and be proud of you baby." The positive message was received well by followers as well.

Navya is an entrepreneur who founded Aara Health in 2020: an online portal that works for women's health. She also runs an NGO 'Project Naveli' which works to create a gender-equal world.

In a video created by NDTV, the health-tech entrepreneur was heard saying more responsible and organisations creating conversations around periods is a big step. She added that menstruation is a topic that society has been shying away from for a long time. Speaking about the changes in society, Navya said the younger generation is privileged to have an environment with conversations. "But it is not the same for everyone".

The activist said she grew up in a home where her family members were open to talking about menstruation. And she hopes to create such a space for every woman in India. "A way to normalise it will be to make changes at home. It starts by being comfortable enough to talk about it with mothers and grandmothers."
