Patna: Saying that the Muslim population in the state is increasing, Bihar Agriculture Minister Amarendra Pratap Singh demanded a law to control the population growth in the state. He added that Hindu community numbers are declining there, IANS reported.

Singh said that whenever the population of Muslims increased and the Hindu population decreased, India headed towards separation. The population of Muslims is growing rapidly in the Seemanchal, Mitilanchal and Kosi regions in the state, but the Hindu population is declining in many villages here, he said. Singh said, "a dangerous practice is going on there, which is certainly a concern for us."

The minister, a BJP nominee in the Nitish Kumar-lead coalition government, further said that he firmly believes in the implementation of a population control law, and it is more important than the caste-based census. Both ruling and opposition parties are talking about caste-based census while a particular community is having a rapid growth in numbers which is left unnoticed, he said.

The BJP had repeatedly raised the population control law in India. However, its alliance in Bihar, including JDU and HAM, are against such a law. Though they advocate caste-based census, they have never mentioned or made statements on the rising population of a particular community in the country.
