Mob harasses interfaith couple in Hyderabad, four arrested
text_fieldsHyderabad: Police in Hyderabad’s Charminar have arrested four people for allegedly assaulting an interfaith couple on Monday.
Police began investigating the incident after a video showed the couple getting harassed and assaulted, NDTV reported.
Several Muslim men were seen confronting a man, and a woman in burqa who was carrying a baby.
The man accompanying the woman was repeatedly hit in what is reported to be ‘under the assumption of his Hindu identity’, according to the report.
Nevertheless the woman pleaded with them, the accused sought the proof of the man’s religious affiliation and pressed for showing his Aadhar card.
After a suo motu case on Tuesday, police formed special teams and four individuals were arrested the following day.
Police seized the mobile phones containing the viral video evidence.
"Four persons physically abused the couple. The woman had a baby with her. The accused tried to harm the baby as well," said Charminar ACP P Chandrasekhar was quoted as saying, adding ‘The accused have been arrested and will be produced in court."
