Mob abuse, harasses Muslim woman in UP; strips off her hijab
text_fieldsMuzaffarnagar/Uttar Pradesh: In a pitiful incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar, a group of men attacked a Muslim woman and her Hindu male friend and forcefully stripped her hijab off. A video of the incident is viral on social media, where a man could be seen removing the woman’s hijab, despite her protests, while the remaining assailants verbally abused, harassed and physically assaulted her, India Today reported.

According to the report, the incident happened in a narrow lane in the Khalapar area when the duo, 20-year-old Farheen and a man named Sachin, were going to collect a loan instalment. Farheen, daughter of Farhana, who is a resident of Khalapar and an employee of Utkarsh Small Finance Limited, was accompanied by Sachin on a motorcycle following her mother's instructions.
A group of 8-10 men confronted them, abused and assaulted the duo, while the entire episode was filmed by a bystander, which later became viral on social media. The video gathered immediate attention from authorities, it is learned. Police rushed to the spot after receiving information and dispersed the mob while escorting the two to the safety of the police station. Police registered a case under the relevant section of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita after Farheen filed a complaint.
Muzaffarnagar City Circle Officer (CO) Raju Kumar Sao narrated the incident, "On April 12, between approximately four and 4:30 PM, a Hindu man from the Bhavan area and a Muslim woman from Khalapar, both associated with Utkarsh Small Finance Bank, were returning from Sujdu after collecting a loan instalment. They were stopped and assaulted by some locals in Darzi Wali Gali,” India Today quoted.
Later, the six accused were arrested, it is learned.
