Senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Manish Sisodia resigned as Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi on Tuesday amid the ongoing Liquor Scam row.

Sisodia who is currently in five-day CBI custody in connection with the excise policy case had moved the Supreme Court today for quashing of the FIR or in the alternative, grant him bail from CBI custody.

However, the Supreme Court refused to entertain his plea asking him to move the Delhi High Court for relief.

The bench comprising Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha said that Sisodia has alternative remedies available before the High Court and asked him to pursue them instead of directly invoking the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court under Article 32 of the Constitution.

Sisodia had then withdrawn his petition. The AAP has decided to move the High Court.

Sisodia was arrested on Sunday after an eight-hour interrogation by the CBI.

Health Minister Satyender Jain, who has been in jail for less than a year following his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case, has also quit from his post.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has accepted their resignation.

If sentenced to two years or more in jail, Sisodia and Jain may lose their seats and can’t contest polls for six years.

Sisodia also held several high-stakes portfolios, including education and finance which will now reportedly be given to Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar Anand. Meanwhile, Jain was Delhi’s health and prisons minister.
