Amid the arrest and custody of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, eight opposition parties write PM Modi on the matter.

New Delhi: In an unusual unity in opinions, Delhi BJP and Delhi Congress welcomed CBI filing an FIR against Delhi's former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in an alleged snooping scandal linked to the Delhi government's feedback unit, PTI reported.

Delhi BJP demanded that CBI must arrest CM Arvind Kejriwal too, while Congress said that the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act must be slapped on the accused in the said case since it was an internal security issue. BJP also said that the case must be probed from the angle of sedition.

Delhi BJP working president Virendra Sachdeva said, "I believe it's a matter of sedition. Was it that the information of the Feedback Unit was being shared with any foreign power. The agency should also probe if the FBU was getting funds from foreign countries."

He said that there were certain people who were close to the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), such as CM's special advisor, who was in the FBU. The operations of FBU were under suspicion, he claimed.

"We believe not only Manish Sisodia and some officers but Kejriwal also played a key role in the functioning of the FBU, and the agency should also book and arrest him," he said.

Delhi Congress vice president Ali Mehndi said the party has been raising the matter for the last six months.

The FBU must be probed so that people will know what exactly happened when it was operational.

"We think UAPA should be slapped in this case because it is a matter of internal security. A state government cannot simply have such a snooping unit, and it is rather a prerogative of the central government," he said.

Mr Sisodia, who is currently in jail in connection with an alleged liquor policy scam, was booked by the CBI in a fresh case related to alleged misuse of an official position and using the city government's Feedback Unit for "political snooping", officials said Thursday.
