New Delhi: A man threw a liquid at the former chief minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal while he was attending an election campaign. A video showed a man trying to grab the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Security personnel gathered swiftly but Kejriwal can be seen wiping his face after the liquid was thrown at him, Hindustan Times reported.

The Aam Aadmi Party blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for the attack on Kejriwal.

PTI quoted Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, “Shoot-outs and gang-wars are regularly happening in Delhi, and protection money is being asked (from people). A gym owner was killed outside his gym in Greater Kailash, while a person was stabbed to death in Panchsheel Park. Meanwhile, regular attacks are being carried out on Arvind Kejriwal. The BJP-led central government has completely failed.”

Bharadwaj said that BJP leaders carry their rallies in all states but they are never attacked while Kejriwal faces continuous attacks like what happened on the day. He was attacked in Nangaloi, Chhatarpur etc. The law and order in Delhi have collapsed and the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Union government are not doing anything, Asian News International reported.

The attacker, who is believed to be of a local has been taken to the local police station.

Aam Aadmi Party said that if a former CM is not safe in the capital, “where will the common man go?” HT quoted. Delhi is facing a complete law and order breakdown, the party added.

The party had alleged last month that Kejriwal was attacked in Vikaspuri area on October 25. He was attending his ‘padayatra’ then. AAP leader and Delhi CM Atishi said that the people of Delhi have seen how low the BJP's dirty politics can stoop to, citing the incident.

She claimed that BJP cannot defeat AAP and Kejriwal in elections which is why the saffron party is resorting to dirty politics. BJP wanted to kill Kejriwal, Atishi alleged.
