New Delhi: A man murdered his live-in partner, chopped her body into 35 pieces and dumped her in various areas in a forest in Delhi, NDTV reported.

He bought a fridge, stored the body parts and disposed of them in Delhi's Mehrauli forest during midnights over 18 days, police learnt from interrogation. The man, who admitted that he strangled the woman on May 18, said that he killed her because they had frequent brawls after she insisted to marry her.

The accused, Aftab Ameen Poonawalla, and the victim, 26-year-old Shraddha, met in Mumbai, where the latter worked in a call centre for a multinational company.

When the two started dating and moved in together, Shraddha's family objected, and subsequently, the duo left for Delhi. There they started living in a flat in Mehrauli.

When the woman's family lost contact with her after she stopped picking up their calls, her father came to Delhi on November 8 to check on her. He found the flat locked and approached the police. He filed a complaint alleging kidnap, and police apprehended Poonawalla on the basis of the complaint.

Police have registered a case of murder and started searching for the woman's body.
