Mumbai: Thinking back to the creation of a rebel Shiv Sena, Maharashtra chief minister Eknath Shinde reportedly said his move was a corrective measure because people voted to bring in power Shiv Sena-BJP coalition.

Eknath Shinde added that he should have taken the step two and half years ago, because people voted seeing the posters with the image of Balasaheb Thackeray on one half and Narendra Modi on the other, giving BJP got 106 and Shiv Sena 56 seats, according to India Today.

But the BJP-Shiv Sena government did not happen, he reportedly said, adding that the party workers were unhappy.

Despite the former administration was run by a chief minister from Shiv Sena, there was no respect for the party and MLAs were angry with the alliance, which Shinde claimed he had to pacify for the sake of the party.

MLAs didn't get the funds for the constituency, Shinde alleged, saying that there was dissatisfaction all over. Shinde said he tried to reason with Uddhav Thackeray to return to the party with which Shiv Sena shared ideology.

Eknath Shinde declined his group ever forming ally with the Congress or NCP, saying that Shiv Sena ideologue Balasaheb Thackeray was against it.

Shinde said he would take his MLAs to Ayodhya, which is a matter of sentiment and nothing to do with politics, he added.
