The Supreme Court on Thursday said the Allahabad High Court be allowed to monitor the Hathras case in which a Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped by four upper-caste men and died of brutal injuries.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice of India Sharad A. Bobde on Thursday said "Let the high court deal with it. We are here if there is any problem."

The bench stated, "Thus, the expanded fundamental right to life to live with dignity and to exist with dignity even after death as well as the right to decent burial/cremation appears to have been infringed hurting the sentiments of not only the family members but of all persons and relatives assembled on the spot."

"The victim was at least entitled to decent cremation by her religious customs and rituals which essentially are to be performed by her family," it further said.

Meanwhile, Dr Vikram Singh, EX DGP, UP in a virtual interview with Faye D'Souza, said: "There is a lot of merit in the fact that the CBI investigations will be monitored by the Allahabad HC."

"As Hathras case has turned into a high profile case and since the evidence has been botched up, I think that CBI has a honorous job duly guided and supervised by the HC," he added.
