Kochi: The prime accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case Swapna Suresh disclosed that ex-minister in the state KT Jaleel tried to ban Madhyamam daily in the Gulf region. Swapna alleged that Jaleel had sent letters directly to the UAE authorities in this regard.

Swapna said that she has the chats regarding this. Jaleel's demand was based on the news given by Madhyamam along with the picture of the dead in the Gulf due to Covid-19. Jaleel's stand was that the news in the Madhyamam was insulting to the UAE rulers.

Swapna alleged that Jaleel to asked her to take necessary intervention to ban the newspaper. She says that Jaleel indicated that this would help him increase his influence in the political party.

A draft of the letter sent to the UAE ruler and a screenshot of the WhatsApp chat have been produced in the High Court. The letter was sent without the knowledge of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Swapna further said that Jaleel broke protocol and held a secret meeting with the Consulate General without the permission of the Ministry of External Affairs. This is an anti-national act. Along with this, Swapna alleged that Jalil had planned many business ventures abroad.
