New Delhi: India on Sunday summoned the ‘senior most’ UK diplomat to register a strong protest against taking down of Indian flag by a group of pro-Khalistan activists at the Indian High Commission in London.

The Ministry of External Affairs stated that the official was summoned late in the evening to convey India’s protest against separatist and extremist elements behind the act.

The statement also called out “the indifference of the UK government to the security of Indian diplomatic premises and personnel in the UK’.

The MEA said it expected the UK Government to immediately identify, arrest and prosecute those involved in taking down Indian flag, while ensuring the recurrence of such incidents are prevented.

Meanwhile The British High Commissioner to India, Alex Ellis tweeted condemning what he said ‘the disgraceful acts’, adding that it was ‘ totally unacceptable’.

It all began after a group of Khalistan supporters demonstrated outside the Indian High Commission in the UK sloganeering 'FreeAmritpalSingh, WeWantJustice, WeStandWithAmritpalSingh', according to India Today.

One of the protesters scaled the wall of the High Commission taking down the flag while others chanted “ Khalistan Zindabad’.

Even as the police tried to disperse the crowds they went on chanting “Indian government, shame, shame”.

The Punjab Police started a manhunt to arrest Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh on Saturday. However, the separatist leader continues to evade the police, according to the report.
