Hyderabad: Two armed robbers opened fire at a Kerala businessman in Hyderabad on Saturday morning, injuring him in the leg, and escaped with approximately Rs 6 lakh in cash, police said.

The victim, Rinshad P V (26), went to an ATM at Koti to deposit money when the assailants fired at him with a firearm. He fell to the ground as the robbers snatched his bag containing the cash and fled on his bike. Rinshad was admitted to a hospital, and his condition is reported to be stable.

Rinshad, a cloth merchant from Kozhikode, Kerala, deals in readymade kids’ clothing and resides in Nampally, Hyderabad. According to his complaint, he had arrived in the city on January 7 carrying Rs 6 lakh in cash to purchase wholesale stock at Dewan Devdi. As the purchase did not materialise, his cousin Mishban advised him to deposit the money in his bank account.

The incident occurred around 7 AM on Saturday, while Rinshad was using a vehicle belonging to his friend Ameer. Two unidentified men approached him from behind, pressed a firearm against his abdomen, and fired two shots, one striking Rinshad’s right leg and causing bleeding. The robbers also took his vehicle keys before fleeing.

The suspects drove towards the Chaderghat signal and proceeded to Nimboliadda, Kachiguda, where they abandoned the vehicle. After changing their clothes, they reportedly escaped on foot towards Kachiguda Cross Roads, according to a police release.

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said the City Police are treating the incident with utmost seriousness. Special teams are analysing CCTV footage, tracking technical evidence, and coordinating with neighbouring police units to apprehend the suspects at the earliest. He emphasised that citizen safety remains a top priority, and all available resources are being deployed to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.
