Kamal Hassan joins Cong Yathra in Delhi; says 'here as an Indian'
text_fieldsNew Delhi: Kamal Haasan, an actor-turned-politician, joined the Bharat Jodo Yatra as it entered the national capital.
The Makkal Needhi Maiam chief, who was accompanied by party officials, joined the yatra from the ITO and travelled to the Red Fort alongside Congressman Rahul Gandhi.
As he heard his inner voice telling him to come here to protect India from hatred, Haasan claimed there was no political motivation for his trip, NIE reported.
Kamal Haasan has joined the list of famous people who took part in the yatra, which began on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, has travelled across nine states so far, and will conclude in Jammu and Kashmir by the end of January.
In the past, participants in the yatra included actors Swara Bhasker, Pooja Bhatt, Riya Sen, Amol Palekar, and his wife, the writer-filmmaker Sandhya Gokhale.
In 46 districts including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Telengana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Haryana, it has travelled around 3,000 kilometres.
After a nine-day winter break, the Yatra will resume on January 3 for its next leg to Jammu and Kashmir, travelling through Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, and Punjab.
