Junior docs in Kolkata call for protest after RG Kar ex-chief, cop given bail
text_fieldsKolkata: The junior physicians have chosen to call for Reclaiming the Night once more on December 24, 25, 31, and January 1, one day after a local court granted bail to two major suspects in the rape-murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital.
The two primary accused were Abhijit Mondal, the former officer in charge of the Tala police station, and Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, TNIE reported.
The doctors expressed disappointment and said, “We have lost faith in CBI’s investigation. The CBI could not file a charge sheet within 90 days.”
Another junior doctor said, “We feel there is a nexus between the state government and the Center.”
On Saturday, protest demonstrations were held throughout Kolkata by the Congress and Left parties, which blamed the CBI for "failing" to deliver justice. They further alleged that the BJP-led Centre and the Trinamool Congress, which rules West Bengal, had a "tacit understanding."
The court ordered them to appear before the CBI whenever they were called and granted them bail on a Rs 2,000 surety bond apiece.
