Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Council have approved a move to amend some sections of the Agrarian Reforms Act, 1976, IANS reports citing officials' account on Sunday.

The council met under LT. Governor Manoj Sinha's chairmanship gave the assent to the Revenue Department to move the amendment. The meeting was also attended by Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, Advisor to the Lt. Governor and Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir.

The freshly proposed amendments would remove the prohibition on the transfer of land vested under some sections of the Act. They will also bring these lands at par with the land vested under section 8 of the Act.

The amendment bill is all set to be placed before the Ministry of Home Affairs so that it can table the same in Parliament.

IANS reports that the enactment of the proposed amendments will give relief to such landholders who were vested with land under sections 6, 7 and 12 of the Agrarian Reforms Act. The Act would permit them to sell their land parcels, which was earlier prohibited under the Agrarian Reforms Act 1976.

The bill, if enacted, would empower the Financial Commissioner Revenue with revisional power, facilitating the official to dispose of the cases related to the Act, IANS reported.
