ISRO successfully conducts integrated parachute tests for Gaganyaan mission
text_fieldsThe Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully completed integrated parachute tests for the Gaganyaan mission, validating the deceleration system designed for the Crew Module's splashdown in the sea.
The tests were conducted on July 3 at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota.
ISRO said the Crew Module, which will carry astronauts during launch, spaceflight and return to Earth, uses a series of parachutes to slow its descent before landing in the sea.
The agency said around 10 parachutes were deployed during the test to reduce the module's velocity before splashdown.
ISRO is developing a Solid Motor-based Sub-Orbital Launch Vehicle for Experiments (SOLVE), a dedicated test rocket intended to carry out multiple experiments under different flight conditions.
During these tests, the Crew Module is separated from the launch vehicle at an altitude of 10 to 17 kilometres to evaluate its recovery systems under realistic conditions.
