Amidst escalating tensions between India and the Maldives due to controversial remarks made by Maldivian ministers post Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Lakshadweep visit, the Israeli embassy in India shifted attention by advocating for Lakshadweep tourism.

The Israeli embassy, advocating for the picturesque Lakshadweep islands, showcased their interest in contributing to the desalination program at the government's request.

Through their official X handle, the embassy said, "We were in #Lakshadweep last year upon the federal government's request to initiate the desalination program. Israel is ready to commence working on this project tomorrow. For those who are yet to witness the pristine and majestic underwater beauty of #lakshadweepislands, here are a few pictures showing this island's enchanting allure."

Accompanying their endorsement were images depicting the island's serene beaches and captivating marine life.

In response to disparaging remarks made by Maldivian ministers targeting Modi's post about Lakshadweep, India summoned the Maldivian envoy to convey strong concerns regarding these statements made on social media.

The Maldivian government took action against three deputy ministers who criticised Modi's post, viewing it as an attempt to promote Lakshadweep as a competing tourist destination to the Maldives. The Maldivian foreign ministry acknowledged the offensive social media comments but emphasised that these opinions did not represent the official stance of the country.
