New Delhi: India has welcomed the US-brokered peace deal between Israel and Hamas, aiming at bringing back normalcy in the war-torn region, NDTV reported.

The peace-deal comes nearly two years after Israel began military operations retaliating against Hamas’ October 7 attack on southern Israel,.

It is reported at least 67,000 Palestinians killed with thousands of others are still believed to be under the rubble, according to Aljazeera.

The long drawn assault on 25-mile-long section of land has claimed the lives of at least 20,000 children, which according to one report is ‘one child killed every hour for the past 24 months’.

The peace deal calls for a phased withdrawal of Israeli troops from the region alongside Hamas facilitating return of those held hostage in Gaza.

The peace deal, according to PM Modi, indicates the strong leadership of Israel's Benjamin Netanyahu, adding that the agreement would bring lasting peace to the region.

‘We welcome the agreement on the first phase of President Trump's peace plan. This is also a reflection of the strong leadership of PM Netanyahu. We hope the release of hostages and enhanced humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza will bring respite to them and pave the way for lasting peace,’ said PM Modi.

Trump and Netanyahu announced the deal earlier this morning with the Israeli Prime Minister calling it ‘diplomatic success’, and ‘national and moral victory’ for his country.

Thanking the US President for his ‘unwavering commitment’ to Israel’s safety, PM Netanyahu said ‘From the beginning, I made it clear: we will not rest until all our hostages return and all our goals are achieved. Through steadfast resolve, powerful military action, and the great efforts of our great friend and ally, President Trump, we have reached this critical turning point’.
