Prayagraj: A lawyers' group approached the Allahabad High court against the Uttar Pradesh government, razing down the house of Javed Ahamad, who allegedly conspired in the violence in Prayagraj that happened after Friday prayers on June 10, PTI reported.

Five advocates belonging to the Zila Adhivakta Manch, who filed the petition in the high court, asserted that the house belonged to Javed's wife, Parveen Fatima. She received the house from her parents before marriage, and Javed has no ownership over it, and hence the demolition was illegal.

According to the petition, neither Javed nor his wife received the show-cause notice, which was pasted on the house on June 11 but was dated a previous date.

Further, the petition said that Javed was a social worker and was arrested on June 10 night, but the FIR was registered a day later.

Meanwhile, BSP chief Mayawati came down on the state government for the razing down houses of violence accused, saying that the act is unfair and unjust as well as creating an atmosphere of fear and terror. She urged the courts to take note.

She demanded that the two suspended BJP leaders who made the controversial remarks be arrested. Because of the two, the honour of the country got affected, and violence broke out. "Why no action has been initiated against them, and why has the government ridiculed the rule of law? Not sending both to jail is grossly biased and unfortunate," she said. "Not only innocent families are being crushed, but houses of innocent people are also being razed," she added.

Violence had taken place in parts of the state following a row over now-suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma's remarks against Prophet Mohammed. The Prayagraj Development Authority (PDA) tore down the Javed's home on Sunday and justified that the building's plan was not approved by PDA. A day before, PDA had demolished two houses in Saharanpur.
